Features to know about

Effortless Turning in Tight Spots: Automatic 14" Sliding Action

This hitch takes care of the hard part when you’re towing with limited turning space. The built-in rack-and-pinion system automatically slides the head back up to 14" toward the tailgate when you turn, giving the clearance needed for tight corners and slow-speed maneuvers. No getting in and out to move a manual slider—it reacts smoothly as you steer, then returns forward when you straighten out. The automatic motion keeps your setup stable without jerking or binding during turns.

Built to Tow Heavy and Stay Solid: 21,000 lbs GTW and 5,250 lbs Vertical Load Limit

With a gross towing weight rating of 21,000 lbs and a vertical load limit of 5,250 lbs, this hitch is made for heavy 5th wheels and long hauls. The steel construction and 3/4" thick locking bar reinforce the connection, while the rust-resistant black powder coat finish helps it hold up against weather and road wear. The solid feel can be summed up best as “rock steady”—giving you the confidence to tow big campers without flex or movement in the hitch.

Quiet, Secure Connection at Every Mile: Wraparound Single-Piece Jaw and Locking Bar

The single-piece wraparound jaw surrounds the king pin for full 360-degree contact, tightening up the connection so there’s less rattle and chucking on rough roads. A solid steel locking bar spans in front of the jaw for added security, automatically engaging when the jaw closes. Together they create a snug fit that feels smooth and quiet when you pull out or hit uneven pavement—no clank or shift between truck and trailer.

Smooth Ride Over Bumps and Dips: Double-Pivot Head with Polyurethane Dampeners

The double-pivot hitch head moves both front to back and side to side, helping to absorb road shock as you travel. Three polyurethane dampeners cushion that movement—two built into the head for side-to-side flex and one underneath for fore-and-aft motion. This cushioning keeps things calm over bumps and dips while also making it easier to line up during hookup since the head pivots naturally as it meets your pin box.

Simple Setup with Adjustable Height: Drop-In Puck Mount Design

Installation is straightforward—the base drops right into your underbed mounts so you get a rail-free design with full bed access once removed. The hitch offers three height settings at 16-7/8", 18-3/8", and 19-1/4" to help fine-tune trailer level and clearance. A spring-loaded handle with a tethered safety pin makes coupling simple, while diamond-plate tread on the base adds grip when stepping around your setup.

This 21K unit is very well built. It does have some weight to it so some help installing would be much easier.my installation was completed solo and took approx 1 hour in a GMC 3500 Denali.

by:

The product is very well built. The instructions could use some clarity on exactly which bolts go where.

by:

Hitch is amazing. I was worried about towing a 5th wheel with a short bed. Hitch works as advertised. Easy install. Thanks for the help and fast shipping.

by:

Install pretty straight forward. Hitch works as it should. 90 degrees with my 5 1/2 foot bed. The ums rails..well just say there ain't no way the bolts just drop in from above like in install video. My truck is same year as in the video. Rails with spacers (which needed pusuasion to "slide" in) are flush with the bed. Also the hole plugs work great with no rails...need to trim tip off for them to seat with rails installed. See pics

by:

The product showed up in perfect condition. Followed the instructions and install was pretty smooth. I had access to a forklift so I was able to do the install by myself. Just be aware that it’s a freight shipped item so the estimated arrival time is wrong. It will take longer than what the website tells you at checkout. But the customer service reps were helpful in explaining the process when I inquired as to where my package was.

by:

I like to hitch but unfortunately doesn’t work for my trailer as it won’t travel level meaning it was to high in the bed of the truck causing to much weight to be on the rear axle of the trailer which will cause other issues like wearing tires, wheel bearings, axles and could cause rear tires to blow out while traveling. With discussion with Will at ETrailer we worked out to use a stationary hitch until one can be available for our situation. Will was excellent to work out our options.

by:

Heavy as hell. Shims should be in smaller increments. Took a sledge hammer to get pins to finally seat in pucks and to close the locking handles. Took apart and back together 5 times to get it right. Not enough play in the system in my opinion but I have zero experience with OEM 5th wheel prep stuff so who knows. Ultimately in the end it's installed and feels tight. Backing 90 degrees i didn't see and slide but maybe it knows what it needs to do better than I do.

by:

Installing was relatively easy. Made my silly Rhino hitch work with auto slide.

by:

Working perfectly. Delivered via LTL, the carrier called in advance to schedule delivery to our home. I requested a lift gate at delivery. Driver picked up the (1) skid (approx. 500 lbs.) with pallet jack, moved it to the lift gate. I backed the pickup truck receiving the hitch to the back of the carrier truck and put down the tailgate. Driver lowered the lift gate to the same level as the tailgate of the pickup truck and moved the pallet from the lift gate to the back of the pickup using the pallet jack. All done in the street in front of our house. No problem!
I assembled the hitch in the rear of the truck by myself. Everything lined up perfectly with the "puck" system. Install took a few hours since I was on my own.
First hookup with 5th wheel was a little problematic. Hitch would not engage when the king pin hit the back of the hitch. Being new to a 5th wheel hitch, I thought I was doing something wrong. I got a neighbor who had years of experience with 5th wheels to take a look - we still were having problems getting the new hitch to engage. As it turned out, the king pin on the camper had a little corrosion, which we cleaned off and added a little grease. We added a touch of grease to the new hitch at the point of contact with the king pin. Hooked up on the next try and every other try (probably a dozen or more) since then.
Did some practicing on sharp turns and the automatic slide works perfectly! Full clearance between cab of truck and camper in all the turns we attempted. I did a lot of research and stressed a good deal over this purchase - so excited it worked out. Knowing what I know now, I'd do it again!

by:

Seems to be built very well, and installation was fairly easy considering the size and weight. Won’t know how it travels until I get the RV in the Spring….we shall see! In my particular case, I had to use spacer washers between one of the brackets and the hitch so it wouldn’t jam in the truck mounts but no big deal.

I’ve also figured out a way to “store” the hitch for the winter.

great service

by:

Works great as expected. Did a 5500 mile trip in October 2024 no issues.

by:

Used it for first time and it performed very well. Very stable driving on highway. So glad I got it being I never drove a 5th wheel before.

by:

A very nice hitch. If you have a bed carpet or a bed liner it may require Un shimming the locking pins. I have a bed carpet and I had to stand on the back corners to get the pins to engage the bed pucks. Not really a big deal. It is very heavy so I assembled it in the bed of the truck. I would highly NOT recommend doing it this way except if you are by yourself. Get a chain hoist or maybe an engine hoist because it is very heavy as an assembled unit. It is flawless in its operation. Very well made. I am very happy with it.

Still very happy with it. If you have not had one before they take a little getting accustomed to because the sliding of the hitch is too subtle to observe from your review mirror.

by:

Overall I am really glad I went with this hitch. I will start out with the 4 star reason. The hitch has a noticeable jerk when accelerating while turning, this is the auto slide moving into the left or right slot. If you are careful when turning it's not very noticeable. The second reason is how precise I need to be when backing up to hook up. This is because there are adjustable sides on the hitch that need to be in close contact to the camper's pin box. This is what turns the autoslide left or right to slide back as you turn. Not design flaws, just something to be aware of.

Now all of that is easy to forget about once you are hooked up and know what happens in turns. It is so easy to just use without worry about hitting the cab on tight turns. Would I buy again, yes. Would I recommend, yes with disclaimers on what I talked about.

Very heavy duty, which means very heavy. It comes out fairly easy if the truck is on flat ground. Any twist in the truck frame due to uneven ground and the hitch is not budging.

by:

What is the truth? It’s a gray hitch saved my ass in many ways and unfortunately I give it two stars for one reason loan it’s incompatible with a lot of lightweight trailers and there’s no help with that. There’s no adapter to be listed. This goes on and the simple solution would be to extend the bolts that latch onto the trailer itself on the kingpin head. That’s really the only problem.

by:

This hitch is very well made. Its very heavy and will require some kind of lift to get into the back of the truck. I used a foldable engine hoist. The puck system works well as long as the pucks the truck manufacturer installs are cast correctly. One of the RAM pucks had some slag or casting imperfections that had to be removed for the hitch to go into the puck. Once that was cleaned up the hitch installed very easily. Another thing is this hitch has no rattles when I am not pulling a trailer.Very impressive to other 5th wheel hitches I have used. The hitch works as intended as I do not have any issues with clearance in a full 90 degree turn. When turning at a 90 on a grade or large angle which sometimes causes clearance issues this hitch I have not had any issues.

Great pointer with the hoist Tanner, this thing is a beast! It is so awesome to not have to get out of the truck to be able to make those tight turns. Any big adventures coming up this year? Where are you going, what are you seeing?

by:

Worked out great. I used the hitch for my camper right after I installed it. However, I did break one of the bolts when installing it, which is OK. I just switched to grade 8 bolts which is better anyways. I love the fact that Demco hitch unlocks when you pull the lever regardless of weight on it. Compared to my previous Mopar hitch you had to get at the right weight pressure to unlock it.

It has worked great so far so good however wave expresshorizon transport does not accept this manufacturer’s hitch. I pull a 12,800 something pound fifth wheel camper loaded has done great no issues. Here’s hoping it last 20 years.

@Andrew I am curious on why they do not accept this hitch?? Do they have something against things that are awesome?? It is really neat how they designed this Andrew! No more leaving the cab for some crazy maneuvering.

  • Comparing The 18k and 21k Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitches For A 2024 Ram 2500
Hi Sawyer, Manufacturers typically recommend that you have a safety net of roughly 15-20% of the hitches capacity leftover so it is ok to go higher but only to a certain extent. For example, if your trailer's GVWR was 15,000lbs and you switch to a hitch rated for 25k or 30k you'd likely notice the difference in the hitch's stiffness. Essentially, the higher the capacity the harder the head of the hitch is going to be to turn because it's designed for more weight. A GVWR of 14k to 16k...

  • Is PullRite SuperGlide The Best Auto Slider 5th Wheel Hitch For 26 RAM 3500 With Montana RV?
Hey Greg! Yeah the B&Ws are super nice and we don't hear many complaints, but I understand what you're saying about the manual sliding being annoying. The auto slides like PullRite and Demco Autoslide are a nice upgrade. For your 2026 RAM 3500 short bed, I'd look into the PullRite SuperGlide 5th Wheel Hitch for Ram Factory Prep Package - 24K # PUL28RR. This will fit right onto your OEM pucks without any modification or other parts needed. We just started carrying PullRite awhile back...

  • Choosing Between 18k and 21k Demco Autoslide for 2026 Ram 3500 Towing 18k GVWR Toy Hauler
Hey Shane! That is definitely not a dumb question. The # DM69GV (6077) is fine to use as long as you don't exceed the 18,000 lb GVWR of the toy hauler. Personally, I would go ahead and get the # DM89GV (6107) with the higher rating just to be safe. This prevents any issues if you happen to overload the trailer and don't realize it. The higher rating won't hurt anything so I think it is better to be safe than sorry. This also keeps you covered if you end up with a higher rated trailer sometime...

  • Can Jayco 382FLRB Fifth Wheel Trailer be Towed with 18k Demco Fifth Wheel Hitch
Hey Jeffry, so you are totally safe using an 18k Demco slider hitch like the part # DM69GV at 17,500 lbs. 17.5k would be the absolute max your trailer would weigh which is well within the capacity of an 18k hitch. If for some reason you'd be over 18k then yes you'd want the 21k version part # DM89GV but basically you are perfectly fine to be at the full capacity of a hitch and you're totally safe as they rate the hitches pretty conservatively.

Hey Rob! I can't recommend the Demco Autoslide # DM89GV enough for your 2019 Ram 3500. This hitch is a staple in the towing industry because the hitch head will automatically slide towards the back of your truck bed when extra clearance is needed on tight turns. Manually sliding hitches require you to get in and out of your truck to operate them during a tight turn, but this guy makes it a seamless transition for you.
